F1: The Efficacy of Transitional Housing in the Lives of LGBTQ Youth/Young Adults

Transitional Housing serves as a meaningful intervention for LGBTQ youth/young adults experiencing housing instability. In this workshop, you will learn about Trinity Haven’s Transitional Living Program and their Host Homes Program and the unique barriers faced by LGBTQ youth/young adults. We will discuss how co-creating community for and with LGBTQ youth is pivotal to their success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of the general challenges and barriers that LGBTQ+ youth experience.
  • Become more aware of the challenges LGBTQ young people face with regard to safe housing, obtaining education and employment and how to be part of the solution.
  • Understand how transitional housing is a meaningful intervention for working with LGBTQ young people.
  • Understand how Trinity Haven's housing programs fill a need for this specific programming here in Indiana.

Presenter Bio:

Jenni White is the founding Executive Director of Trinity Haven, Indiana’s first residential facility to focus on the needs of LGBTQ youth and young adults who are at risk for homelessness. She has a master’s in Public Service Administration from the University of Evansville.
